  1. Being the New Girl

    11/15/09 09:51:28 | 4 Comments

I have been here now for exactly 2 weeks. Gosh, I can't believe it's such a short time as I am already beginning to feel like part of the furniture.

Mind you, I have been made to feel extremely welcome and comfortable by the residents that I have now met. Maybe I have been lucky and only bumped into the nicest, as I am sure there must be some miserable buggers here somewhere. If there are though, I haven't come across them.

I have spent the odd hour or two having tea or coffee, depending on their up bringing, with some, and have been shown around 5 of the other flats. So far only 2 ladies have ventured into my home, but as soon as my suite of furniture arrives and I have more comfortable seating, I intend to remedy that.

First of all let me explain that my flat (apartment) is of the studio kind. Meaning that the living room and bedroom area are in the same floor space, although the bedroom has it's own 3 walls and it's only the front wall that...
  2. Moving - Halloween - My Birthday

    11/02/09 04:36:55 | 4 Comments

This week has been an eventful one for me. Last Sunday I moved into my new flat. Saturday was Halloween and this Sunday was my 61st Birthday.

The actual move went really smoothly, but then it would as I had no furniture to move. Having moved out of a caravan where all fixtures and fittings came with it, I had to buy all new furniture for the new flat. All was in situ in the flat ready for the move on Sunday, that is all except the suite which is another story, so it was only a matter of moving the last few boxes in from caravan to flat.

The flat is sooooo very tiny that I had thrown away a lot of bits I had collected but never used for a long time. I say threw away but in actual fact they all went down to the Samaritans shop. I thought I had thrown away everything I could throw away but unfortunately on unpacking at the flat I had to sort out yet another big bag of throw aways.

Although everything now has a corner, it's a very crowded...
  3. A Little Bit of Silliness

Way back in 1969 when I was first married, my Husband and I moved into our very first home together with our Daughter Sarah, who was then 3 months old. Prior to that we had been living with my Mother.

In those days one didn't buy ones telephone but it came as part of a package with the rental of the telephone line.

The trimphone had not long been invented and of course as a young couple we wanted the newest thing on the market, so I chose to rent a two toned blue trimphone. The trimphone had a funny little warble as a ring tone, which at that time was also a great novelty because up until then there had been only the one ring tone in the whole of the UK for all phones.

Of course as the years passed and more and more choices arrived for styles of phones and as we started to be able to buy phones privately, at some point...
  4. A New Flat

    09/09/09 01:25:05 | 32 Comments

Last Thursday I received a phone call to say that a flat had come vacant in the complex that I have been hoping to move to.

FridayI went along to collect the keys to go have a look see. As per usual it ended up as a family outing. The whole family, naturally, wanted to take a look see. By the time we had gathered together there were 10 of us.

You can imagine it with everyone looking and planning what I could do with it and what would be best here, there, or whatever. My head was spinning with everyone making suggestions at the same time, lol.

The flat is on the top floor of a 3 story block. I was very pleased about this as I have been saying "I hope it's on the top floor". I hate curtains and to live on the top floor means that I don't have to have any covering at the windows if I don't want to.

It also means that there is no one above me which is something I also didn't want. I have lived in flats in the past and have...
  5. New Plans

    07/17/09 10:23:39 | 12 Comments

Since moving down to Dorset in the April of 2007 I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Living in a caravan has been fantastic, and seeing how my girls are all now settled and happy, I can now breath easy and know this move was one of the best decisions I have every made.

Living in a caravan as I say has been great, but I also have to say, "up until now". There is much now that I feel I am missing by not living in bricks and mortar and by living in this location. So I have decided it is now time for me to soon leave the caravan behind and move into a flat.

I am now beginning to feel a little cut off living in this location. The nearest supermarket is a car ride away or a fairly long cycle ride and because Sarah's work hours don't allow her to pick me up and take me to a supermarket where food is a lot cheaper, I am buying all my groceries at the local corner shop. We all know how expensive that can be.

Now that Sarah has moved, when I visit...
