  1. Vive la France

    07/06/09 11:18:32 | 6 Comments

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has decided enough is enough regarding Muslim women wearing the burqa in his country and is all set to ban it.

I can't tell you how thrilled I was to read this and my only disappointment is that it isn't our British Government that have the balls to do this.

Putting it very simply first. If we wore T Shirts and Shorts in any Muslim country we would be put in prison. If they expect us to follow their dress codes then they must expect to follow ours.

The Burqa, as Nicolas Sarkozy puts it, is a prison. Women are forced to wear it or get a beating from their husbands, and in their own countries imprisonment. Those that wear it voluntarily are more often than not extremists. By banning the Burqa it is one step towards shouting "Your way of life will not be tolerated in our civilised societies".

The Burqa has absolutely nothing to do with the Muslim religion, so they can't come that old cry....
  2. This is Quite Amusing

    04/17/09 07:13:03 | 11 Comments

For those of you that know me well, you will no doubt also find this amusing.

First of all let me explain that if someone requests a friendship link I never click to deny them. But, I don't always accept them.

I don't accept those that are simply trying to link to as many people as possible, that don't know me from Adam and don't even want to know me. If there is a hint that someone is simply making a collection of friends or are linking with people just to get the extra kudos I don't accept them.

As I said I don't deny them either. What I do is click on the (i) link, click friend and then yes to remove them.

The reason for removing them as apposed to denying them is, that once denied they can't apply again. In order to link with anyone denied one has to go request friendship from ones own end.

Some people that I deny might genuinely be wanting to link with me and I could have misunderstood their...
  3. Curiosity Killed the Cat!!

    04/06/09 09:33:22 | 16 Comments

Something I have been very curious about for a long time is this...........

I sometimes get as many as 70 visitors recorded on my profile in a day. Yet I get very few blog comments. Ok, one could say that perhaps my blog posts are boring and therefore no one is interested in commenting, but I don't believe this to be quite true in the case of every single person that visits my profile.

I get comments from those in the blog ring but very seldom from other Yuku members however well they know me, and yet I get many comments left in my comments/guest-book block. This means that people are sticking around long enough to read.

I have my latest blog post on the front of my profile so it isn't as if someone needs to click another button to enter my blog yet they do have to click to enter my comments/guest-book.

I played on blogger and also had a blog on blogger for a long time, and all would nip around any and all blogs and posting comments as...
  4. Let's Play Catch Up

    03/08/09 04:22:33 | 4 Comments

I haven't had time to sit and write a blog for a few days. I've had plenty of thoughts of bits I could have written about but never did get around to sitting down and blogging them. Maybe that was for the best as this blog is getting decidedly grumpy. So much so that I thought about changing it's name to Grumpy Old Woman, lol.

But now while I sit here with my very late breakfast of marmite toast and a cup of tea, and before I go jump in the shower and start my day for real (well it is Sunday after all) I thought I would play a little catch up.

Life as usual is treating me good. Today the sun is shining, albeit still quite cold, and I am feeling very content with myself.

The main thing on my mind at the moment is working hard to get through my next test (102) for my sign language on 1st April. I am starting to think in sign now though. Now, that doesn't mean that as I think I see the signs, it means that I am thinking in the order of sign....
  5. The Worst System on the Internet

    03/03/09 13:44:05 | 2 Comments

I have just come across the absolute worst message board/profile/blog system ever.

    The system is Multiply.

I thought I would take a toodle over to see what it is all about as I haven't long come across the name of Multiply. I first of all took a virtual tour, but we all know how these type of systems bum themselves up and once one has registered and had a play the reality of the system compared to the way it advertises it's self are usually totally different.

I had first clicked on a few profiles, blogs and what have you but you know even on Yuku it's pot luck for a visitor and maybe would be member to land on a fun, creatively styled profile or a basic Yuku blue with the barest of content. Landing on a basic profile doesn't really give a visitor any idea what can be achieved with the profiles and blogs here. Those that I clicked on, over on Multiply, I wasn't at all impressed with so decided to create a profile just to see first...
  6. Facebook & Me

    02/19/09 20:19:33 | 8 Comments

Facebook and I just aren't getting along. I have spent the last 2 days wandering around trying to get the hang of things, yet again.

On my return after a long absence I found over a hundred applications waiting to be processed by me. After trying to sift through them all I decided the best thing to do was to click the ignore button on the daft, play type ones and just accept the ones such as people wanting to add my birthday to their calendar or add me as a best friend etc.

I then looked through all those I had accepted as friends on the couple of times over months and months that I had logged in to Facebook. I found that half the people there I hadn't got a clue of who they were. This was because one has to use their real name on that system with nowhere to be able to put a regular screen name used.

I don't know most people's real names, I simply know them by their screen name. Those that had recognisable avatars, being the same they used...
  7. Do I Expect too Much of Others??

    02/17/09 10:26:40 | 14 Comments

Sometimes I get a little, let's say frustrated, with some people's thoughtlessness, or shall we say selfcenteredness.

I have many visitors to my Profiles & Blogs Tips & Tricks board, which is great. There are also a heck of a lot of people now using some of my findings of gadgets widgets and ideas, which is brilliant. And many now are making full use of their profiles which is the whole idea of my board.

When I see a new face on the board I always go over to see how they are building up their profile and am delighted when I see how much people are taking advantage of the bits of information I do have on my board.

I have been finding though that some of those people may also have a gadget, widget or and idea on their profile that I haven't come across and therefore isn't part of my board's collection.

What annoys me is the fact that I have asked on the board that if one finds anything of interest out there in the way of...
  8. It's a Marshmallow World

    02/02/09 04:05:46 | 5 Comments

Like the rest of the country here in the UK I woke up to a white world. Supposedly this is meant to be the harshest winter for 13 years.

Down in the South here, and in my particular area, there is barely enough snow to cover the ground yet this town and surrounding area has virtually come to a stand still. The schools are shut, and I would imagine that's simply because the oil deliveries can't get through. Monday is the school's delivery day.

Sarah's fella had an appointment today and it took him 2 hours to get there as apposed to 40 minutes. Trains and buses have stopped running.

This positively does not make sense. We were warned by the weather reports, several days ago that heavy snow would be here within the next few days. The local councils were given plenty of warning to get the gritters out but as per normal they left it until snow has actually fallen, accidents happened and chaos reigns, before they decide that perhaps we do need...
  9. Smoking = Child Abuse??

    01/23/09 04:11:21 | 12 Comments

Today the big topic on the radio is whether here in Britain we should make it a criminal offence to smoke in front of Children.

Already smoking in front of a child can be used as an extra in evidence in a child abuse case as can piercing a child's ears, even though both are perfectly legal.

The experts want to push through a new law to make it a criminal offence to smoke in front of a child. The first couple of times caught being a heavy fine, the third being a short prison sentence.

But they also want to encourage friends, family and neighbours to inform on anyone they see smoking with the children in the same room.

Now for some that are totally against and believe the reports on passive smoking I can hear say, "so it should be", but if this is allowed to happen some social workers that feel strongly about it will soon be using it as a means to take a child away from their home and I can see the law being written to allow...
  10. Prince Harry Racist??? I Think Not

    01/19/09 04:30:09 | 3 Comments

Last week the media made a massive fuss over a home video taken three years ago of Prince Harry and his solider mates joshing around during a break in his army training. He was heard to refer to one of his mates as a Paki and to refer to the Taliban as Ragheads.

The press made a tremendous meal of this condemning the remarks as racist, and the Prince was forced to apologise in public and had a dressing down from his commander as well as the Queen having to get involved.

The Daily Telegraph articles can be read HERE

I am absolutely furious at the fuss this has caused. For a start the Taliban being called Ragheads (misquoted in the telegraph as the prince using the term for all Muslims) cannot in any shape or form be termed as racist. The Taliban is
